The day after Thanksgiving historically has marked the start of the holiday shopping rush. This matters because the November-December gift-buying months combined can account for about 20%, or a sizable chunk, of retailers’ sales for the full year. Retailers this year trotted out early Black Friday-like deals weeks ahead of the annual day-after-Thanksgiving shopping bonanza. “It is a lengthier shopping season because retailers were rolling out early Black Friday deals as early as October. Walmart’s first round of early Black Friday deals included a 50-inch TV house brand for $148.

For almost every holiday, there’s a horror movie, from “My Bloody Valentine” to “Black Christmas.” Thanksgiving, too. But the turkeys-beware holiday gets its own namesake movie with Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving,” featuring an ensemble cast that includes Addison Rae, Patrick Dempsey and Gina Gershon. In a recent phone interview, Roth said that he and Jeff Rendell, a childhood friend and his screenwriter on the new film, have been itching to make a Thanksgiving scary movie since they were kids. “There was that lull between October and mid-December when it was all family films,” said Roth, who’s from Newton, Mass. “We were just waiting for another horror movie to come out.

Minneapolis CNN Business —US consumer confidence fell in November as inflation and economic uncertainty continued to loom large and potentially dampen holiday shopping plans. The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index measured 100.2 for the month, lower than the downwardly revised 102.2 in October. The index is at its lowest level since July, when it fell to 95.7 amid spiking gas prices and worsening inflation. “If we had a combination of higher prices and higher unemployment at the same time, I think we’d be seeing a very different consumer than what we see right now,” he said. While consumer confidence has fallen, it still remains relatively resilient; but it is unlikely to last, said Chris Rupkey, chief economist of FwdBonds LLC, in a note on Tuesday.
Adobe Analytics expects consumers to spend between $11.2 billion and $11.6 billion on Cyber Monday. Overall, Black Friday sales topped $8.9 billion last year, versus $10.7 billion on Cyber Monday 2021. Meanwhile, e-commerce giant Amazon said sales on Black Friday broke a record, underscoring the appeal of shopping online. Sarah Hymer, a mother of two in Utah, said she hadn’t planned on any in-store Black Friday shopping. Rega, holding multiple bags, said Black Friday prices struck her as “comparable” to a year ago.
But in recent years, at least partially because of the pandemic, Black Friday has expanded from one day into a whole season of sales. "It actually started in October," says Louis Ramirez, deals editor at Tom's Guide. Here's how deal experts say the rules have changed for Black Friday shoppers, and how you can take advantage. Depending on where you're shopping, the sooner you buy, the better off you'll likely be. "You don't want to sit on those labeled as Black Friday deals for too long.
Although Black Friday lands on Nov. 25 this year, retailers are already offering deals online. If you're not looking forward to shopping in person, Cyber Monday will also offer online sales after Thanksgiving. Start hunting for deals earlyYou don't have to wait until November 25 for 2022's Black Friday deals. Make a list ahead of time so you know what you're hunting for if you're shopping in person. Although the day of online shopping is more focused on tech gadgets, Black Friday deals likely still will be available on Monday.
Black Friday deals started in October this year, while Cyber Monday sales can extend a whole week with additional sales online. Beyond that, retailers generally launch their online Black Friday deals months before Thanksgiving, giving online shoppers a jump-start. “Cyber Monday will offer TV deals as well, but many retailers stick to the tradition of Black Friday TV doorbusters and really pump out those deals on Black Friday,” McGrath said. Cyber Monday typically outperforms Black Friday in terms of sales: Black Friday raked in $8.9 billion in 2021, while Cyber Monday hit $10.7 billion, according to data from Adobe Analytics. While Cyber Monday claims the top spot when it comes to e-commerce spending, Black Friday consistently narrows that gap as the number of online Black Friday sales increases exponentially.
